NATIONAL Parent Teachers Association (NPTA) president Raffiena Ali-Boodoosingh today called on parents to pay extra attention to children during the July/August vacation.
In an interview with Newsday, Ali-Boodoosingh said in light of all the problems taking place with children, they are at a greater risk during the vacation period especially when they are left unsupervised.
Ali-Boodoosingh also said more mishaps happens to children during this period.
Yesterday Deputy Director of Care Services for the Children’s Authority Rhonda Gregoire-Roopchand said the likelihood of child-related accidents were greater during vacation periods and urged parents, guardians and the public to exercise caution as they go about their daily routines.
Ali-Boodoosingh said during the vacation period children have a lot of ideal time on their hands.
“What I am suggesting is that we need to invest in our children. As a nation we need to invest in the safety and well-being of our children because they are our future population. They are also our future capital. Our country on a whole need to invest in their safety.”
