Driver of fatal school bus hires lawyer

A 31-year-old school bus driver is expected to be interviewed by police today in connection with the death of one of her passengers, three-year-old Isaiah Hazel.

Police said the woman has obtained a lawyer who will be present during the questioning.

After the driver found the toddler dead in her bus she suffered a panic attack. She was taken to the psychiatric ward of the San Fernando General Hospital and was evaluated. Days later she was released and doctors deemed her mentally stable enough to be interviewed.

Police said Hazel was found unresponsive in the school bus in California last week Thursday afternoon.

It was reported that he fell asleep in the bus in the morning, and the driver thought all the children had been dropped off. She returned home and locked the bus, and he boy was only found when she went to collect schoolchildren in the afternoon.

An autopsy showed Hazel died of hyperthermia caused by extreme heat and dehydration.

Hewas laid to rest on Thursday after a funeral at the Mt Moriah Spiritual Baptist Church in California.
